A Dying World of Opportunity (event)

Character: Count Garniex Deivonax of Weitesfeld

What makes the great men of history? Is it some sort of hidden element in their soul? A dedication to heroism and greatness? Or, as anyone who isn't an idiot would say, simply being the right man in the right place?

Aversaria is dead, not dying, dead. The world itself may follow it, but what do I care? The lot of my kin has always been to govern and rule, from an era when 'Empire' was little better than the mud huts surrounding our keeps, to the era when 'Empire' was some oft-forgotten entity from afar to which we were forced to give the occasional tax. But my fore-bearers were failures and fools. What little land they gained they lost, and what power they held they let slip away in the petty politics of the Imperial court.

But that is no longer, for these northern savages... my new 'kin', present opportunity. A second breath for my dynasty and a new chance of glory. All I needed to do was swing a sword and kill those of the Legions who pretended like we held heritage to earn trust, and then ride a horse in a circle once or thrice at the Pass to earn glory and a place in the family of one of the savage's mightiest rulers. Now? Well, today's barons shall be tomorrow's kings, and my place as sovereign is no fantasy or thin hope. It is simply a likely conclusion and a well-earned prize, simply waiting for me to go out and grasp it.

In the death of Empire, let me be king!
