Seventy years I have ruled my people. The Amsari in union, the people united. Seventy years I have followed the Prophecy and done my best to interpret its messages well, and I have done so through its conclusion and into this dark new age our people enter.
They say I'm a fool now, in their own way. Whether through kind words about how I am too compassionate or loving to my children, or through cruel ones about how I'm an old fool unable to do what needs to be done.
I know the dangers. I know that the Chevalien merchants I have welcomed are vultures, that my sons bare daggers meant for one another. But if we are entering a dark age, how can I be the one to make it darker? As Qanamsar, is my duty to secure the family's power, or is it to set the standard to my people?
I will not make this world darker.
