Lichdoms (concept)

Biozone: The Lichdoms

Far to the north of Chevalie, beyond the Black Forts, lie the dead lands of the Lichdoms. Long ago, these lands were home to the Ojyczaynz, until a rising of Liches wiped all life from the land in the Sorrowing of Oejeynica. Now nothing grows here. Adventurers have remarked that in some parts, the land is so silent you can nearly hear your own heart. The air is known to burn as one breathes due to a overwhelming aroma of sulfur. Whole stretches of land have been ripped from the ground, leaving nothing but gaping holes straight to the heart of Aeras. What little weather patterns remain are nothing more than dust storms and magically charged clouds of ash that rise from the volcanic rifts. Vast necropolises dot this husk of a region, surrounded by mountains of bone. Travelers of all kinds should know to avoid these lands at all costs, lest they wish to lose their lives, or worse.

The Lichdoms are the remains of what was once a series of dozens of advanced kingdoms, empires and magocracies under the Oejeynican culture. The Lichdoms were formed during the Sorrowing of Oejeynica roughly during the same period as the establishment of the Aversarian Aautokrata and the arrival of the Marchers in Chevalie when the first Arch Lich, Vilas Venslau, unveiled his powers as a Lich and scoured nearly all living things from the region before invading south. To this day, the Lichdoms have remained devoid of all actual life besides the occasional carrion bird, only the undead and their masters moving about the ruined land.

Due to centuries of Liches absorbing whatever life force can be found, battling one another with extremely powerful magic, and corrupting the land, what was once one of the most fertile areas of Aeras will most likely never be able to properly sustain life again.
