Heir to Chaos (event)
Character: King Runalem Belar of Dihalet
I was born and raised as a royal, as the heir to my father's throne, just as he was raised by his father. He did the best he could to educate me in the arts of rulership, arts at which I struggled to grasp. And he also taught me of our glorious past, of how our ancestors had once ruled all of Damota, and how our rule would come again. We were the Belar Dynasty, we were among the most powerful and ancient families in all the realm. And though those days, the days of the Boqqarut, were far behind us, I was to rule our tālqarut in a mirror of its prosperity.
And then came the Waharai, the heretics refusing our authority. Their movement had already become widespread in the south by the time of my birth, and my childhood was consumed by watching my father fail to keep them under control. And as his efforts fell through, they revolted, and our once-grand kingdom was split into pieces. The rebels quickly seized the south, splintering into their own fragments as their cause seemed victorious. This cut off the west, which broke away before being conquered by invaders, and the east faced an assault from the Nitsafai zealots. Only in the north did we hold out, and my father died a broken man because of it. And the scavengers now circle the corpse of a state that I lead. We are betrayed, we are hunted, but we will survive. For the greatest lesson which I have ever learned is simple.
I am not dead yet.
